In Hungry for Change MSG was discussed and through hundreds of studies scientists were creating obese mice and rats to use in diet or diabetes test studies. There are no strains of rats or mice that are obese. They make these morbidly obese creatures by injecting, or feeding them MSG when they are first born. The MSG triples the amount of insulin the pancreas creates; causing rats to become obese. They even have a title for the fat rodents they create: “MSG-Treated Rats”.
The most common side effects from MSG are:
“Cardiac – Arrhythmia, Atrial fibrillation, Tachycardia, Rapid heartbeat, Palpitations, Slow heartbeat, Angina, Extreme rise or drop in blood pressure
Circulatory – Swelling
Gastrointestinal – Diarrhea, Nausea/vomiting, Stomach cramps, Rectal bleeding, Bloating
Muscular – Flu-like achiness, Joint pain, Stiffness
Neurological – Depression, Mood swings, Rage reactions, Migraine headache, Dizziness, Light-headedness, Loss of balance, Disorientation, Mental confusion, Anxiety, Panic attacks, Hyperactivity, Behavioral problems in children, Attention deficit disorders, Lethargy, Sleepiness, Insomnia, Numbness or paralysis, Seizures, Sciatica, Slurred speech, Chills and shakes, Shuddering
Visual – Blurred vision, Difficulty focusing, Pressure around eyes
Respiratory – Asthma, Shortness of breath, Chest pain, Tightness in the chest, Runny nose, Sneezing
Urological / Genital – Bladder pain (with frequency), Swelling of the prostate, Swelling of the vagina, Vaginal spotting, Frequent urination, Nocturia
Skin – Hives (may be both ..internal and external), Rash, Mouth lesions, Temporary tightness or partial paralysis, numbness or tingling of the skin, Flushing, Extreme dryness of the mouth, Face swelling, Tongue swelling, Bags under eyes”
The deception continues with labeling.

Names of ingredients that always contain processed free glutamic acid:
Glutamic acid (E 620)2, Glutamate (E 620)
Monosodium glutamate (E 621)
Monopotassium glutamate (E 622)
Calcium glutamate (E 623)
Monoammonium glutamate (E 624)
Magnesium glutamate (E 625)
Any “hydrolyzed protein”
Calcium caseinate, Sodium caseinate
Yeast food, Yeast nutrient
Soy protein, soy protein concentrate
Soy protein isolate
Whey protein, whey protein concentrate
Whey protein isolate
Names of ingredients that often contain or produce processed free glutamic acid:
Carrageenan (E 407)
Bouillon and broth
Any “flavors” or “flavoring”
Citric acid, Citrate (E 330)
Pectin (E 440)
Anything “enzyme modified”
Anything containing “enzymes”
Soy sauce extract
Anything “protein fortified”
(1) Glutamic acid found in unadulterated protein does not cause adverse reactions. To cause adverse reactions, the glutamic acid must have been processed/manufactured or come from protein that has been fermented.
The following are ingredients suspected of containing or creating sufficient processed free glutamic acid to serve as MSG-reaction triggers in HIGHLY SENSITIVE people:
Modified food starch
Lipolyzed butter fat
Brown rice syrup
Reduced fat milk (skim; 1%; 2%)
most things low fat or no fat
anything Vitamin enriched
(2) E numbers are use in Europe in place of food additive names.

Dr. George R Schwartz MD, Author of “In Bad Taste: The Msg Symptom Complex : How Monosodium Glutamate Is a Major Cause of Treatable and Preventable Illnesses, Such As Headaches, Asthma, Epilepsy, heart by George R. Schwartz” said this in his book:
” Particularly disturbing is the later obesity after MSG exposure during the neonatal and infant period even after only a short or limited exposure.”
In Bad Taste by George R Schwartz MD, page 22
“The stress-induced abnormalities in blood-brain barrier permeability suggest differing MSG effects dependent on existing states of relaxation or stresses. The suggestive evidence for MSG-induced neuroendocrine effects is substantial, coupled with the observation of increased obesity in children.”
In Bad Taste by George R Schwartz MD, page 39
“The obesity effect of MSG in animals requires evaluation since unexplained obesity is increasing in our population, along with hypertension and diabetes. MSG-induced obesity in animals may carry long-term significance for humans.”

Here’s a book description by the Publisher:
Did you know that you may have a poison in your pantry? A substance which can case migraine headaches and balance difficulties; precipitate severe shortness of breath, asthma attacks and heart irregularities; cause disabling arthritis, and even serious depressions? A substance that can induce disruptive behavior problems in your children?
Monosodium glutamate (MSG), a universally used flavor enhancer, permeates our processed, packaged and frozen foods. For those sensitive to this substance, it is indeed a poison.
The dose of MSG throughout our foods is increasing. It can even be found in cans of tuna, and injected into turkeys. It is served to us in the finest restaurants and to our children in school.
Older people are particularly susceptible. Many elderly people suffer from depressions and balance difficulties caused by MSG. There are links, as well, to Alzheimer’s and other neurodegenerative diseases.
In the original “In Bad Taste” Dr. George R. Schwartz industry uses to hide it in your food, and the devastating effects MSG can have on your health.
Since the release of the original ground-breaking book, media from all over the globe, including The 700 Club and 60 Minutes, have covered this story. But what they haven’t always told you is that medical research has continued to make stunning findings about what the ingestion of MSG can do to the human body.
New research has forged even stronger links between MSG and MSG-containing substances and the dramatic rise in cases of asthma, ADHD, migraine, Parkinson’s Disease, heartbeat irregularities, and a host of other serious illnesses.
Once again, Dr. Schwartz has stepped to the forefront of this controversy. He has completely revised his previous work, adding more than 50% new material, incorporating new findings and case studies to create “In Bad Taste: The MSG Symptom Complex.”
Here is a list of products that have MSG in them.
“Monosodium Glutamate (MSG) literally stimulates neurons to death, causing brain damage to varying degrees.”
